Our Elementary School Social Skills group is designed to help children improve their social skills by developing the ability to be flexible social thinkers and social problem solvers. The curriculum is based off of Michelle Garcia Winner’s Social Thinking curriculum which teaches the “why” behind our social behavior.
Utilizing the The Incredible Flexible You™ framework, social concepts and vocabulary are taught through the experience of four characters in storybooks, lessons, music and structured play where concepts are described, demonstrated and practiced. Children will learn about the social mind, social expectations, and their own thinking and that of others helping to create the mental and emotional connections needed for social communication and social awareness.
This program includes a weekly parent group where parents learn how to assist their child by providing feedback/coaching for using the vocabulary and implementing skills in everyday life. Weekly attendance for parents/caregivers is a program requirement.
