Couples Therapy
Most couples experience conflict or problems within their relationship from time to time, however when conflict gets in the way of a healthy and happy relationship, couples therapy can help. For most couples, problems stem from lack of skills in communication, conflict resolution, emotional reactivity and negative sentiment. Fortunately, these skills can be learned, and motivated couples can benefit and deepen their relationship by them. Those experiencing relationship breakdown will find therapists at CAAT who have ample experience and compassion for helping couples (dating, engaged, married or separated) build happier, more fulfilling connection to each other.
Parent Coaching
CAAT understands that parents as primary caregivers manage multiple, sometimes competing priorities for their time, energy and resources. Juggling family, career, volunteer and individual needs is strenuous, and parenting a child with special needs, social challenges or an autism spectrum diagnosis can feel overwhelming. CAAT offers ongoing support for parents to help them develop networks, share coping strategies and connect with available resources in the community.
Making sense of the world your child sees and experiences can empower parenting choices. Our therapists take a holistic approach to successful treatment, partnering with parents and providing them tools to understand and support therapy interventions being introduced and affirmed by individual treatment services.
Support for Siblings
The sibling relationship is the longest lasting relationship. Having a sibling on the autism spectrum, or who has other special needs comes with unique opportunities and inherent challenges that can create complex, confusing and contradictory feelings including love, joy, pride, anger, frustration, fear, sadness, resentment, jealousy, confusion, embarrassment and isolation. Siblings so feel left out, overlooked or pressure to be the mature, responsible child within the family unit.
At CAAT we feel it is important to support the entire family because family members are interconnecting parts that influence one another. In treating individuals with autism spectrum and related disorders, we teach skills to set and achieve specific goals, but also coping strategies and communication skills to help improve relationships with parents and siblings.
CAAT therapists offer one-on-one counseling and ongoing support to siblings of individuals on the autism spectrum; we help siblings increase their knowledge and understanding, share frustrations and coping strategies, and feel supported themselves. If you have a child in need of sibling support services, please call the office to schedule an intake appointment for counseling sessions with one of our therapists.
